Sexually transmitted infections
ImprovingGonorrhoea and syphilis, per 100,000 people
What it means: new infections diagnosed at sexual health clinics and online testing services, per 100,000 residents. The total is dominated by chlamydia, much of which is found through screening of young people, so it moves with how much testing happens: the fall in 2020 and 2021 reflects clinics closing during Covid, not less infection. Gonorrhoea and syphilis have risen sharply over the decade. A change of 5% or more counts.
