Sea temperature
For contextWhat it means: the average temperature at the surface of all the world’s oceans, from ships and buoys, compared with 1961 to 1990. The oceans absorb most of the extra heat trapped by greenhouse gases. A regular UK-only series is not published as open data; the seas around the UK have warmed faster than the global average, with a marine heatwave in June 2023. Shown for context.
