Commitment: protect 30% of land for nature by 2030-12 (30 by 30). Starting from 7.8% in 2020-03, the straight path needs 18.1% by now.

What it means: the UK committed in 2020 to protect 30% of its land and sea for nature by 2030. This card shows England’s land in Sites of Special Scientific Interest and other nationally and internationally designated wildlife sites, the official measure published so far. National Parks and National Landscapes do not count on their own. The government has set criteria for other land that could count, but has not yet published a figure for it, so the true share may turn out higher once it does. The UK and sea figures are separate.
