Oil, gas and coal produced in the UK

For context
34.1million tonnes of oil equivalent of oil produced in 2025, 77% below the 1999 peak

Gas 28.6 Mtoe, 74% below its 2000 peak; coal almost nil. Net imports supply about 43.3% of the energy the UK uses

Show chart and details

What it means: how much oil, gas and coal is produced in the UK, mostly from the North Sea, measured by energy content. North Sea output peaked around 1999, when the UK produced more energy than it used. Deep coal mining ended in 2015 and the last coal power station closed in 2024. The import share is worked out here from the same table (imports minus exports as a share of energy used) and may differ slightly from DESNZ’s published import dependency figure. Shown for context.
