What it means: adults who cycled for any reason, whether to get somewhere or for leisure, at least once a week. It shows how many people cycle, not how far. The government’s walking and cycling strategy aims for half of short journeys in towns to be walked or cycled by 2030, but that is not published as a single national figure. The latest figures are for 2023. A change of half a point or more counts.
