What it means: the World Press Freedom Index scores how free journalists are to work, covering political pressure, the economics of news, law, social attitudes and safety. Higher is better. It is compiled by Reporters Without Borders, an international non-governmental organisation, rather than a government statistics body. The method changed in 2022, so earlier years are not shown. A score change of one point or more counts.
