Where the food eaten in the UK comes from, 2025

What it means: UK food production as a share of all the food supplied here, valued at the farm gate before processing. The lower figure includes foods such as bananas, coffee and rice that cannot be grown in the UK. The share rose after the Second World War, peaked in the 1980s and has been around 60% for two decades. It can dip in years with poor harvests. Defra stopped publishing “food miles” around 2010.
