Pledge: 1,500,000 homes by 9 Jul 2029, counted from 9 Jul 2024. The full count for 2024-25 was 208,600 net new homes, −12,810 on the year before.

What it means: hitting the target needs about 300,041 extra homes a year, well above anything in the chart's annual figures. The count so far uses the government's own early estimate, based on energy certificates issued for new homes.

Source: MHCLG, indicators of new supply and net additional dwellings. The March 2026 point is worked out from the published totals.
