Target: 75% by the 2027/28 school year. Starting from 67.7% in 2023/24, the latest results before the target was set, the straight path needed 71.3% by now.

What it means: teachers assess every child at the end of reception year in England. A good level of development means a child is at the expected level in the core areas such as communication, reading, writing and maths. The assessment changed in 2021, so earlier years are left out.
